"FM Shoukry meets with UN envoy to explore ways to resolve Syrian conflict."

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, on June 9th. The call was in the context of the follow-up to the last meeting between Shoukry and Pedersen in Geneva on May 25th, and the continuous coordination between Egypt and the United Nations (UN) to push for a political solution in Syria. The two sides discussed all the contacts and meetings held over the past period by the various parties and ways to bridge the gap between the different positions so as to gradually deal with the Syrian crisis in order to resolve it and alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people.

They also discussed ways of working on a step-by-step approach and coordination in this regard between the Arab Ministerial Committee on Syria and the UN in order to harmonize efforts aimed at pushing forward this approach. Pedersen expressed his full appreciation and confidence in Egypt’s keenness to continue working and excellent coordination with the UN in order to uphold the interests of the Syrian people and end this protracted crisis.
