The New York Post shed light on new fraud crimes committed by some immigrants in the United States to obtain insurance compensation, through Russian gangsters, a team of American surgeons and lawyers, and corrupt lenders who execute the latest major scam in New York City through fake lawsuits related to personal injuries where immigrants are assisted in their twisted schemes.
The American newspaper mentioned that immigrants and other desperate residents of New York are pressured to undergo unnecessary spinal fusion surgeries and other operations to enhance the value of their false accident claims, according to US court records, insurance investigators, and law enforcement sources. Doctors benefit from the medical fraud by performing back and neck fusion surgeries, allowing scammers to steal billions through fraudulent insurance claims.
The newspaper pointed out that the scam usually involves a seemingly healthy person falling lightly on the street or at a construction site, then claiming a devastating injury requiring multiple surgeries. The twisted surgeon fuses healthy vertebrae with screws and plates, leading to a lawsuit against the company or owner or both. Settlements start at a million dollars each but can go much higher.
The fraud operations rely on law firms handling hundreds of such cases, along with prominent doctors, shady lending companies convincing immigrants to borrow to cover costs, and a group of recruiters who lure in immigrant victims and orchestrate their falls.
